A desktop environment. You see, in Linux, you can choose how your OS looks. Check out this Wikipedia article for more info:

Linux has some cool features but I don't know how to take advantage of it.

It's all about learning. Since most of us grew up on Windows, we learned how to use it. Had we grown up on Linux, we'd know how to use it. I just pretend I'm a kid and play around, and know if I break it, I can reinstall.

Pretty much what I do :3 ... plus most of the time if you have a problem someones already come across and fixed it Managed to bork my FC10 install when I tried upgrading to FC11 using 'yum' on the command line...lol Fresh install and it's fine.

Noticed one thing tho bud, it's probably just me but on one of my older boxes I can't get a partition with EXT4 to install...have to fall back to EXT3...tis of teh fail!

Still prefer GNOME to KDE :3

Doesn't matter if its Linux or Windows...a clean install is the BEST install. Pain in the butt, I know, but...saves bigger problems from happening later.
